The Egypt Healthcare Authority participated in celebrating World Antimicrobial Awareness Week at all its healthcare facilities in the provinces implementing the Comprehensive Health Insurance System, under this year’s slogan: "Protect yourself and others by using antibiotics wisely."

This celebration aligns with both international and local efforts to address the dangers of antimicrobial resistance. The activities are held annually in collaboration with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

According to the Authority’s statement, the celebration included awareness seminars and interactive workshops, as well as the distribution of educational materials highlighting the dangers of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of limiting its spread. Specialized teams from clinical pharmacy, antibiotic teams, and community engagement officials participated in providing awareness and health consultations.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sabki, President of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, stated that the celebration was part of the Authority’s commitment to promoting health awareness and supporting the rational use of antibiotics, which contributes to achieving a sustainable health system. The celebration aligns with both international and local efforts to address the irrational use of antibiotics.

He added: "The activities held in the Authority's facilities in various provinces of the comprehensive health insurance system aimed to raise awareness among the public and medical teams about the importance of rational antibiotic use. The key awareness messages focused on: 'Do not use antibiotics without medical consultation, adhere to the prescribed doses, complete the full treatment course as prescribed, and do not share antibiotics with others.'"

Dr. El-Sabki further emphasized that the Egypt Healthcare Authority continuously works on applying best health practices through awareness activities and community initiatives targeting both citizens and medical personnel, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 and ensuring a healthy future for all members of society. He stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance and highlighted the need for collective action by individuals and institutions to achieve a more efficient and sustainable health system, safeguarding the health of current and future generations.
