The President of the Egypt Health Care Authority participated in a panel discussion titled "Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare" as part of the events of the Africa Health ExCon 2024.
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "Our presence at the African Health Forum in Egypt reflects the interest of the political leadership and the Egyptian government in enhancing interaction and the exchange of innovative ideas and visions in the healthcare sector among African countries."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "The modern Egyptian healthcare system focuses on three main pillars: technological health reform, the development of technological systems in the healthcare sector within the comprehensive insurance system, and restoring citizens' trust in government health services through building a technologically driven and governance-based healthcare system."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "The comprehensive health insurance project could not have been launched without relying on technology to achieve comprehensive healthcare coverage in a country with a population exceeding 120 million, overcoming diverse geographical challenges."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "The role of technology came first in the 'health planning' phase of the comprehensive health insurance project. We were able to use GIS Mapping technology, with the help of international experts and specialized companies, to distribute state investments in building hospitals, centers, and health units equitably across the provinces."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "We contracted a comprehensive electronic system for all inputs and outputs of the comprehensive health insurance system in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and relevant state agencies, and one of the national companies to form an alliance and create a database for all beneficiaries. The project is currently applied in 6 provinces and will extend to all provinces of the Republic by 2030."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "Today, we stand before an integrated electronic system and a collaborative model in providing health services between the government and private sectors. The system has achieved great technological results, including registering 6 million citizens in the comprehensive insurance system, electronic health records with unified codes, and electronic systems for managing healthcare and full mechanization of 100% of primary healthcare centers and 80% of hospitals."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "After the successful phase of building the modern Egyptian healthcare system, we will continue building on these successes, enhancing the use of technology and applying artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "We now have more than a quarter of a billion images in the Radiology Information System (RIS), and through the use of artificial intelligence, we can achieve accurate and rapid diagnosis of diseases, analyze big data, predict diseases, and enhance work efficiency, education, training, medical research, remote diagnostics, and map genetic diseases and personalized medicine as strategic goals for the Authority in the coming period."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "We call on international organizations and donors to direct a major part of their aid to African countries to enhance the use of technology and artificial intelligence, establish innovation and development centers, and build human capacities. We must start today to bridge any gaps, especially in the field of modern technology, including AI."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity, stating: "Egypt, with its extensive experience and long history, is ready to cooperate with African countries in the field of cybersecurity and exchange expertise to ensure data confidentiality, especially in the healthcare sector, which is considered national security."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority: "We cannot imagine the advancement of the healthcare system in Africa in terms of technology and the enhancement of artificial intelligence use without the concerted efforts of all in African countries. We call for the establishment of a platform to discuss a unified law to regulate the use of AI and its governance and to effectively and accurately utilize all data across African countries."
President of the Egypt Health Care Authority expresses his aspiration to establish an African agency specialized in artificial intelligence to serve the African continent and recommends integrating the African Union's Agenda 2063 into this vital aspect, affirming: "Artificial intelligence will become as essential as electricity in the third and fourth industrial revolutions and the internet in the fifth industrial revolution, and it is now undeniable that technology and artificial intelligence will become an integral part of humanity's future."
