Dr. Ahmed El-Sabky participated in the celebration of International Nurses Day 2024

Under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Ahmed El-Sabky, chairman of the Egypt Health Care Authority and Supervisor of the comprehensive health insurance and decent life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, participated in the celebration of International Nurses Day 2024. The event was organized by the General Union of Egyptian Nurses to commemorate this day, which falls on May 12 each year, coinciding with the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, known as the founder of modern nursing.

The event was attended by His Excellency Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population; Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El Din, Advisor to the President for Health and Prevention Affairs; Dr. Ashraf Hatem, Chairman of the Health and Population Committee at the House of Representatives; Dr. Ali Mehran, Chairman of the Health and Population Committee at the Senate; Dr. Kawther Mahmoud, General Syndicate of Nursing and Supervisor of the Nursing System at the General Authority for Health Care and member of the Senate; Dr. Naeema Saeed Abed, representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt; Dr. Ali Abu Jalil, representative of the Arab Hospitals Federation; Dr. Mahmoud Seddik, Vice President of Al-Azhar University, representing the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar; Bishop Antonious, representing Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria; and Dr. Hany Rashed, Vice President of the General Authority for Health Care Board, along with numerous health and nursing leaders, representatives from various health authorities, deans of nursing colleges, and a selection of doctors and nurses interested in healthcare.

During his speech, Dr. Ahmed El-Sabki confirmed that the comprehensive health insurance project is a comprehensive healthcare reform initiative by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He highlighted the vital role of nursing in the healthcare system, expressing heartfelt appreciation to Egypt's great nurses for their exceptional efforts in patient care. "Nurses provide extraordinary efforts in patient care, working with dedication and devotion under all circumstances," he said, emphasizing that nursing is the backbone of healthcare development in Egypt and plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of healthcare and community health.

Dr. El-Sabki also noted the significant attention the General Authority for Health Care pays to the nursing system through developing pay scales, training, moral support, and public appearance to ensure the best healthcare for patients. He mentioned that the quality standards related to nursing at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital in South Sinai and the medical complex in Ismailia have received international acclaim and the highest ratings from the Joint Commission International (JCI) on quality accreditation. "We affirm the authority's continuous role as a tool for achieving the dreams of nursing professionals within the comprehensive insurance system," he added.

Concerning the development of nursing staff, Dr. El-Sabki mentioned that the authority owns 11 technical nursing institutes, "Care Institutes," in the first phase governorates of the comprehensive insurance system implementation, which are a significant addition to graduating nursing cadres at the highest level according to quality standards and labor market needs.

Dr. Kawther Mahmoud, Nursing Syndicate General and Supervisor of the Nursing System at the General Authority for Health Care and member of the Senate, pointed out the substantial progress in the nursing system at health facilities belonging to the General Authority for Health Care. She confirmed that a qualitative leap had been achieved, comparable to advanced global standards, and expressed aspirations for more achievements in the future.

The celebration honored health leaders, representatives of the World Health Organization, the Arab Hospitals Federation, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the Egyptian Church, and particularly Dr. Kawther Mahmoud for her significant efforts in revolutionizing the nursing system at all levels.

Additionally, the event commemorated nursing martyrs and distinguished nursing staff from various health sectors, including those from the General Authority for Health Care, with Excellence Awards given to Dr. Sherine Mohamed Saad, supervisor of our nursing services development; Dr. Nancy Alaa El-Din, supervisor of the Care Technical Institutes for Nursing; and others from the nursing management at the authority and its branches in various governorates.

This occasion underscored the critical role of nurses as fundamental pillars in the healthcare system and their continued dedication to serving patients and contributing to a healthier and thriving community.
