The Chairman of the Health Care Authority meets with the Director of the North and Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Health Care Authority, met with Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhy, the Regional Director for North and Eastern Mediterranean at the World Health Organization. During the meeting, they discussed enhancing collaboration between the Authority and the WHO.

He emphasized the importance of partnering with the WHO to leverage their expertise in capacity building and training human resources to implement the second phase of the comprehensive health insurance system.

He also mentioned considering launching a virtual platform under the auspices of the WHO's EMRO office to share experiences and exchange expertise among 22 countries in the field of comprehensive health coverage, involving all stakeholders in the health sector.

Dr. El-Sobky pointed out the importance of documenting and disseminating Egypt's pioneering experience in the structural and financial health transformation through comprehensive health coverage.

The Egypt Health Care Authority is preparing to open the first virtual hospital in Ismailia, which will be the first of its kind in Africa and the largest in the Middle East using smart digital solutions and telemedicine for diagnosis and treatment.

He highlighted key topics on the cooperation agenda with the WHO, including enhancing access to health services, collaboration in managing health emergencies, and building national capacities.

Dr. Balkhy praised Egypt's historical role in managing health and humanitarian crises in Gaza and Sudan and commended the significant improvement in the quality and comprehensiveness of the services provided by the Egypt Health Care Authority.

The WHO is focused on improving public health in the region through key strategies such as enhancing emergency response, disease prevention, strengthening health systems for comprehensive health coverage, and supporting member states in localizing pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical production.

The meeting was attended by officials from both the Egypt Health Care Authority and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, discussing further collaboration to improve health outcomes in the region.
