Egypt Healthcare Authority: Transformational Leap in Intensive Care Services Across Universal Health Insurance Governorates in 2024

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, announced significant advancements in the development of intensive care services within the Authority's hospitals during 2024. These efforts are part of the Authority's strategy to deliver comprehensive and high-quality healthcare services.

Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the addition of 278 new intensive care beds in the Authority's hospitals across the Universal Health Insurance governorates, with substantial investments amounting to EGP 7 billion. This expansion represents a 47% increase in the number of available beds and an 88% growth compared to the previous four years.

Improved Patient Outcomes

The Authority’s hospitals reported a recovery and improvement rate of 82.8% in intensive care units during 2024, reflecting its commitment to applying the highest quality standards in healthcare delivery. Additionally, the Authority achieved a 34% reduction in mortality rates within intensive care units, bringing the mortality rate 13% below the global average.

Efficiency Enhancements

Dr. El-Sobky noted a 25% reduction in the average length of stay for patients in emergency intensive care units, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and capacity. Moreover, the Authority reduced the monthly average waiting time for patients requiring admission to intensive care units for more than 24 hours by 66%, highlighting substantial improvements in managing critical cases.

Specialized Units and Clinical Protocols

The Authority plans to launch specialized units for advanced care within intensive care departments. Dr. El-Sobky emphasized the commitment to implementing standardized clinical protocols to ensure the highest levels of healthcare for patients.

Strategic Vision

These achievements align with the Authority’s comprehensive strategy to enhance healthcare services, supporting Egypt Vision 2030 in achieving universal health coverage. The developments aim to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services provided to citizens across all Universal Health Insurance governorates.
