The Egypt Healthcare Authority participated in a World Health Organization workshop

The Egypt Healthcare Authority participated in a World Health Organization workshop, presenting its vision on "Healthcare Services Convergence" and its partnership with the private sector. The session was titled "Institutional Frameworks for Private Sector Engagement in Healthcare and Comprehensive Health Insurance Systems."

The Healthcare Authority noted that integrating the private sector in the first phase of the comprehensive health insurance implementation has enhanced healthcare indicators, efficiency, and the quality of services provided.

The Authority expressed its intention to encourage broader partnerships with the private and nonprofit sectors during the second phase of the comprehensive health insurance system.

The Authority's partnership strategy includes several axes: health planning, health awareness initiatives, digitization of services, health governance, medical tourism, and green transformation.

The Authority emphasized that revitalizing and stimulating partnerships helps overcome many challenges, which reflects in enhancing trust between citizens and the government sector, achieving financial sustainability, and drawing a health map based on accurate indicators from the field.

For the second consecutive day, the Egypt Healthcare Authority, led by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Authority and Supervisor General of the Comprehensive Health Insurance and Decent Life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, participated in a workshop initiated by the World Health Organization under the theme "Institutional Frameworks for Private Sector Engagement in Healthcare and Comprehensive Health Insurance Systems."

Dr. Ahmed Saeed Hammad, Advisor to the Chairman of the Healthcare Authority for Health Policies and Systems, represented the Authority. He delivered a lecture titled "Healthcare Services Convergence," emphasizing the importance of partnerships with the private sector as well as with civic organizations and international entities, and the necessity of their integration with the governmental sector to enhance the implementation of partnerships along with activating the global partnership for sustainable development.

Dr. Hammad highlighted that the Healthcare Authority, as the state's primary arm in regulating the delivery of services within the comprehensive health insurance system, managed to integrate the private sector during the implementation of the comprehensive health coverage system in the first six provinces: Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, and Aswan. This integration has enhanced efficiency, supported the quality of services provided, and utilized modern technologies to improve healthcare indicators and make them more effective.

He reviewed several examples of private sector partnerships, notably with four hospital chains (Magrabi, Cleopatra, Saudi German, and Alpha Medical Group), as well as partnerships with pharmaceutical companies. The partnerships covered various areas including health planning, health and awareness initiatives, digitization of services, health governance, patient experience enhancement, medical tourism, green transformation, among other axes aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services for citizens.

Dr. Hammad pointed out that the upcoming second phase, scheduled to begin this year, will witness broader engagement with the private and nonprofit sectors, emphasizing that revitalizing and stimulating partnerships contributes to overcoming many challenges, reflecting in enhanced trust between citizens and the government sector, achieving financial sustainability, and drawing a health map based on accurate real-world indicators.

The workshop included several discussion sessions and dialogues between representatives from the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health and Population, representatives of the Healthcare Authority, and all entities involved in providing and developing health services, aiming to enhance partnerships between the public and private sectors in healthcare, and to achieve Egypt's Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
