The Egypt Healthcare Authority announced the key aspects of its digital transformation and telemedicine initiatives, based on adopting a vision of digital transformation and utilizing information technology to support decision-making as part of Egypt's Vision 2030.
The Authority’s statement clarified the work areas of digital transformation and telemedicine, which include electronic medical records, telemedicine, remote medical diagnosis, reliance on an electronic dashboard for data analysis, and the use of international coding systems.
The statement noted that these initiatives have contributed to improving the management of health services and providing accurate information to decision-makers, thereby supporting the formulation of effective health policies.
The statement continued: The Egypt Healthcare Authority is the first fully digital authority in Egypt, based on several pillars, including the unified electronic medical record for patients, electronic archiving of radiology, remote diagnosis, revenue cycle management, electronic archiving, and telemedicine. The Authority also focuses on improving complaint management and monitoring patient satisfaction with the services provided using digitization and artificial intelligence mechanisms.
It was noted that nearly 4.5 million electronic health files have been created for citizens in the provinces where the universal health insurance system is applied. In addition, the electronic referral system from primary healthcare units and centers to higher levels of service has been implemented. Moreover, Egypt, represented by the Egypt Healthcare Authority, has successfully implemented the international health coding system ICD11, becoming the first country in the North and Eastern Mediterranean region to apply this version of the codes.
The statement also mentioned electronic prescriptions, which are among the most prominent outcomes of relying on digital transformation across all procedures within the Authority, highlighting that 42 million electronic prescriptions have been issued to date. Additionally, the primary healthcare centers and units under the Authority in the provinces where the system is applied are fully digitized by 100%, and the workflow within the hospitals operates according to a fully computerized system. The interactive dashboards and dynamic database are prepared for integration into the artificial intelligence system, confirming that the use of technology and innovative techniques that enhance comfort and efficiency have contributed to enabling integration within the healthcare sector for those interacting with the universal health insurance system.
