Egypt Healthcare Authority honored symbols and leaders in healthcare

During the Egyptian Doctor's Day 2024 celebration, the Egypt Healthcare Authority honored symbols and leaders in healthcare across Egypt, in recognition of their significant contributions and their roles in advancing the healthcare system in the country. The event attracted a wide array of notable personalities from the medical and health sectors, including senior officials and physicians from various healthcare sectors committed to enhancing healthcare in Egypt.

The Egypt Healthcare Authority paid tribute to individuals such as the late Dr. Hamdy El-Sayed, former president of the Medical Syndicate and a professor of cardiology at Ain Shams University. Furthermore, Professor Magdi Yacoub, a distinguished professor of heart and chest surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, founder and research director at the Magdi Yacoub Institute in the Harefield Heart Science Center, founder and president of Chain of Hope, and founder and director of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, which established the Aswan Heart Center, was also honored. Professor Yacoub, in a recorded message during the celebration, extended his congratulations to Egyptian doctors, emphasizing the nobility of the medical profession dedicated to serving people equally and justly. He expressed pride in Egypt's capabilities to offer significant services to the public and his aspiration for establishing research centers to deepen the understanding of diseases and enhance healthcare development in alignment with the latest international standards more effectively.

Additional honorees included the late Dr. Amna Ragab, a former member of the House of Representatives and former Deputy Minister of Health in Minya Governorate; Dr. Sherif Wadie, advisor to the Minister of Health for emergency and urgent care and a professor of intensive care at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Mohamed Hassany, Assistant Minister of Health for Public Health Initiatives; Dr. Neama Saeed Abed, the World Health Organization representative in Egypt; and Dr. Hossam Hosny, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Fellowship and Secretary-General of the Egyptian Health Council.

The ceremony also recognized partners of success from the private and civil sectors, including Dr. Ahmed Ezzeldin, CEO and Managing Director of the Cleopatra Hospital Group; Dr. Mohamed Hablas, Regional Director of the Saudi German Hospital Group for Egypt and North Africa; Dr. Mohamed Amara, Executive Director of Hospitals and Medical Projects at Bahia; and Dr. Mamdouh El-Arabi, member of the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council.

In addition, the Egypt Healthcare Authority honored several doctors from its healthcare facilities, including Dr. Amr Salah, director of the Emergency Department at its Luxor branch, and Dr. Ghada Ahmed Hamid from the Aswan branch, along with a group of consultant doctors at the Authority's hospitals.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, head of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and supervisor of the comprehensive health insurance and decent life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, remarked that the event aimed to recognize and appreciate the exceptional efforts of healthcare professionals in Egypt, which contribute to improving the health and well-being of the community. He noted that this event, organized for the first time by the Authority, reflects its acknowledgment of the critical roles doctors and health specialists play in delivering high-quality care and fostering advancements in the country's healthcare system.

He further mentioned that the honorees were chosen based on their distinguished contributions and achievements in the field of healthcare, expressing gratitude for their valuable roles in leading and improving healthcare and promoting the growth of Egypt's healthcare sector. He highlighted the importance of healthcare in achieving sustainable development and ensuring a better health future for citizens.

Dr. El-Sobky concluded by thanking all individuals working in the healthcare sector in Egypt, affirming ongoing efforts and achievements that enhance the quality of healthcare and improve health and welfare in the Egyptian community.
