The Egypt Healthcare Authority has announced a significant achievement in healthcare quality standards. The Ismailia Medical Complex's laboratories have successfully received accreditation from the National Accreditation Council EGAC (EGAC), recognized globally under the international standard ISO15189. This accreditation marks the labs as meeting international standards for medical laboratory operations, ensuring that their test results are recognized and respected worldwide.
Since the initiation of the Universal Health Insurance system in the region, the laboratories have provided over 1.7 million laboratory services and tests, reflecting their critical role in enhancing healthcare services. Dr. Ahmed El Sabki, Chief of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, emphasized that this accreditation is just the beginning. The goal is to extend this standard to all laboratories within the Authority’s facilities across the governorates implementing the Universal Health Insurance system. He highlighted the commitment to ongoing quality improvement and high standards in medical services.
Dr. El Sabki also appreciated the efforts of the medical and administrative teams at the complex, whose dedication made this achievement possible. He stated that the international accreditation not only enhances the capabilities of the laboratories and the skills of their personnel but also aligns with the Authority’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services that meet international standards.
The ISO15189 accreditation focuses on the entire lifecycle of a laboratory sample—from patient preparation and sample collection through to testing and reporting results. This includes ensuring the accuracy of results through meticulous analysis and frequent validation against international standards, as well as focusing on staff training and adherence to proper job functions and work charters within the laboratories.
This achievement is part of the Egypt Healthcare Authority’s broader commitment to elevate the standards of medical care and laboratory services across all facilities under the umbrella of Universal Health Insurance, ensuring consistent, high-quality medical testing and diagnostics for all patients.
