Chairman of the Healthcare Authority Meets with the Head of the Egyptian Insurance Federation to Discuss Enhancing Integration of Private Health Insurance Services
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project and Hayat Karema Projects, met with Mr. Alaa El-Zohairy, Chairman of the Egyptian Insurance Federation, to discuss strategies for strengthening collaboration in private health insurance and supporting the medical workforce within the Authority.
The meeting explored ways to leverage the expertise of the Egyptian Insurance Federation to provide advanced insurance services, including coverage for medical professionals, ensuring protection and support for healthcare workers. Discussions also focused on modernizing insurance solutions to enhance the quality of healthcare services for citizens.
Signing a Cooperation Protocol
Both parties agreed to formalize their partnership through a protocol aimed at delivering tailored insurance services for healthcare workers and developing modern health insurance systems.
First Joint Workshop
A workshop is scheduled for March 2025 to explore innovative approaches in private health insurance, particularly on fostering synergies between government healthcare providers and private insurance entities.
Inclusion of Non-Beneficiaries
Discussions included strategies to integrate populations not currently covered by the Universal Health Insurance System, with a focus on senior citizens and individuals with chronic diseases who are privately insured.
Insurance for Foreign Residents and Students
Plans were outlined to introduce tailored health insurance programs for expatriates residing in governorates under the Authority's jurisdiction and foreign students enrolled in private universities.
Medical Malpractice Insurance
The Authority aims to implement a comprehensive malpractice insurance policy for all medical professionals within its system, ensuring their protection and accountability.
Actuarial Studies and Financial Sustainability
The Federation pledged to support the Authority with actuarial studies to optimize cost structures and pricing for health services, fostering long-term financial and operational sustainability.
Dr. El-Sobky emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with institutions like the Egyptian Insurance Federation to enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare services. He noted that leveraging shared expertise is key to achieving comprehensive and sustainable insurance coverage. Dr. El-Sobky also highlighted the critical role of advanced digital and actuarial tools in modernizing the insurance and healthcare landscape.
Mr. El-Zohairy praised the Authority's leadership in delivering high-quality healthcare services and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to supporting the Authority. He extended an invitation to Dr. El-Sobky to attend an upcoming panel discussion on the new Unified Insurance Law and its implications for Egypt’s insurance sector.
