Dr. Ahmed El-Sebki, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, met with Dr. Sami Khalil, General Manager of Takeda Egypt, and several representatives from the National Health Service (NHS), including Dr. Rachel Chun, Director of Research, Innovation, and Training at the Christie Foundation (part of NHS), Professor Sarah Oduyer, Consultant Surgeon and Head of the Peritoneal Cancer Clinic, and Professor Mark Saunders, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, at the authority's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Ahmed El-Sebki welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of joint cooperation in developing Egypt’s healthcare system. He noted that the collaboration with the NHS will involve establishing the first cancer center of excellence with shared expertise from the Christie Foundation, the largest and first cancer treatment institution in the UK.

The meeting was attended by several leaders from the Egypt Healthcare Authority, including Dr. Ahmed Hamad, the Advisor to the Chairman of the Authority for Health Policies and Systems and General Director of the Technical Office of the Chairman, Dr. Sherif Kamal, the Authority's Advisor for Pharmaceutical Affairs and Drug Management, and Dr. Radwa Abdel-Azim, Head of the Oncology Department in the Chairman’s Technical Office.
It is worth noting that the NHS representatives visited the Ismailia Medical Complex, where the visit included a tour of various departments, including clinics, the Daycare Chemotherapy Unit, radiology departments, labs, and pharmacies.
The visit also included a presentation explaining the development of the healthcare system in Egypt and the services offered by the Egypt Healthcare Authority, including the use of the latest medical and non-medical technologies, service digitization, unification and standardization of clinical protocols, training and qualification of human resources, obtaining national and international accreditations, and improving the satisfaction of beneficiaries, among other remarkable developments.
The NHS representatives also delivered a lecture introducing the Christie Foundation and its role in providing diagnostic and chemotherapy services for cancer patients, conducting scientific research, involving patients in their treatment, and improving their experience to achieve the highest satisfaction rates.
Joint studies between the Egypt Healthcare Authority, NHS, and the Christie Foundation included assessments of the readiness of healthcare facilities within the authority, and the Ismailia Medical Complex was selected to implement the first phase of the comprehensive cancer care centers project
