EHA Announces Medical Coverage Plan for Easter and Sham El-Nessim

The Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA), chaired by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, has announced its medical coverage plan for Easter and Sham El-Nessim celebrations. The plan aims to ensure the availability of all medical and therapeutic services to citizens across UHIS-governed governorates.

Dr. El-Sobky confirmed that the Authority has elevated the alert level to its maximum across 267 Family Health Centers and Units and 38 Hospitals, totaling 305 healthcare facilities in the governorates of Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, and Aswan.

The Authority has reorganized leave schedules, optimized duty rosters for physicians and nursing staff, particularly in emergency and reception departments, and increased the number of on-call teams. Rapid deployment teams have been formed, emergency rosters expanded, and a sufficient stock of essential medicines, medical supplies, blood bags, and derivatives has been secured.

Additionally, advanced poison control centers in the six governorates have been activated to handle any potential food poisoning incidents during Sham El-Nessim festivities.

Dr. El-Sobky instructed continuous monitoring of bed occupancy rates across internal wards and intensive care units, and the availability of ventilators, to ensure preparedness for any emergency scenarios. He emphasized the assurance of sufficient vaccines, antitoxins, energy resources, and fuel to maintain the operational efficiency of medical and non-medical equipment across all facilities.

A Central Emergency Room has been established at EHA headquarters, along with branch-level emergency rooms in each UHIS governorate. Continuous coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population’s Emergency Operations Room and the Egyptian Ambulance Authority will be maintained, ensuring rapid communication through the Unified National Emergency and Public Safety Network.

Dr. El-Sobky stressed the use of the automated dispatch system, ensuring real-time coordination to transfer patients to the nearest hospitals as quickly as possible while monitoring all vital signs directly from the ambulance in accordance with global best practices.

He also confirmed the continued provision of chronic disease medications during the holiday period and expanded emergency services to meet the needs of patients. Dialysis units across EHA hospitals will remain operational throughout the celebrations to ensure uninterrupted care.

Finally, Dr. El-Sobky instructed intensified on-ground monitoring across all affiliated facilities to oversee the execution of the medical coverage plan, ensuring strict adherence to duty schedules and surgical operation lists, maintaining full readiness around the clock during the holiday period.
