The Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) announced that Zurich University Hospital (Universitätsspital Zürich) has welcomed the first delegation of EHA physicians as part of the "Health Universal Bridges (HUB)" Program, which aims to establish twinning partnerships with leading international hospitals in advanced medical specialties. This initiative is part of EHA's ongoing efforts to forge international collaborations with top medical institutions worldwide.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, emphasized that the HUB program plays a pivotal role in developing clinical leadership competencies that drive continuous medical practice improvement. He noted that the Authority is reshaping the concept of clinical education and training through international twinning programs.

He further stated that the Zurich delegation lays the groundwork for establishing Egypt’s first fully integrated national center for pediatric neuro-ortho rehabilitation at Al-Nasr Specialized Hospital for Children in Port Said, modeled after the most advanced Swiss practices.

Dr. El-Sobky highlighted that the HUB program marks a significant leap in fostering effective institutional cooperation, aiming to integrate EHA hospitals into global innovation networks while localizing international experiences to create globally competitive Centers of Excellence capable of obtaining international accreditation.

He expressed his deep appreciation for the support provided by Swiss health and education civil society organizations, particularly acknowledging the Abouzeid Swiss Health and Education Foundation, led by Engineer Hossam Abouzeid, for its prominent role in facilitating and supporting the success of this mission, contributing to stronger healthcare ties between Egypt and Switzerland.

The Authority noted that the EHA physician delegation visited Kinderspital Zürich (Zurich University Children’s Hospital) — Switzerland’s largest and most specialized pediatric center — as well as Careum Center for interdisciplinary health education and simulation training, and the Affoltern am Albis Neuro-Ortho Motion Analysis and Rehabilitation Center, recognized as a leading European reference for complex pediatric neuro-orthopedic cases.

During their visit, the delegation engaged in hands-on training on advanced motion analysis technologies, pediatric neurological function assessments, and the Interdisciplinary Pediatric Neuro-Ortho Rehabilitation model. They also completed practical simulation-based training at Careum Center through realistic clinical scenarios and group assessment methods.

The visit included meetings with top Swiss experts, including Prof. Frank Rühli, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich and Director of the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine (and a noted Egyptologist), Prof. Oskar Jenni, and Prof. Pia Latal, leading experts in pediatric neurological development assessment and functional rehabilitation.

The EHA delegation participating in this mission from Al-Nasr Specialized Hospital for Children in Port Said included:

  • Dr. Ghada Mohamed Gomaa, Consultant of Pediatrics and Neonatology

  • Dr. Norhan Ahmed Abdallah, Deputy Director of the Hospital

  • Dr. Mira Adel El-Gammal, Clinical Pharmacist

  • Dr. Karim Mosaad El-Sebaie, Specialist in Physical Therapy

  • Ms. Esraa Al-Khodary Barakat, Nursing Supervisor

  • Dr. Alaa Abdel-Samee El-Demerdash, International Cooperation Officer at EHA Headquarters in Cairo

The Authority highlighted that key outcomes of the visit included:

  • The development of a plan to establish Egypt’s first fully integrated National Center for Pediatric Neuro-Ortho Rehabilitation at Al-Nasr Hospital, modeled after Swiss standards.

  • The design of a domestic training program using simulation techniques in collaboration with Careum, to be incorporated into EHA’s Clinical Leadership Training Curriculum.

  • Documenting the patient journey within Swiss rehabilitation units to serve as a reference model for the Egyptian system.

  • Activating continuous communication with the University of Zurich and Careum Center to pursue further cooperation in applied clinical training and research.
