The Head of Egypt Healthcare Authority visit to South Sinai Governorate

After the Council of Ministers announced the official operation of the Universal health insurance system in South Sinai as of January 1, 2024.

The head of Egypt Healthcare Authority is on a field visit to the South Sinai Governorate to check on the official operation of the system and ensure that the best health care and service is provided to the people of Sinai.
The head of Egypt Healthcare Authority meets with the Governor of South Sinai to follow up on the latest developments in the official operation of the system and discuss the ongoing preparations for the International Medical Tourism Conference scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh next March 7.

Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority: We are implementing the directives of the political leadership to continue improving the system of health services and care provided to the people of Sinai and keep it in line with international standards.

Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority: We have provided more than a million medical and therapeutic services through our health facilities to beneficiaries of Universal health insurance in South Sinai so far. This includes more than 250,000 services in family medicine centers and units, more than 750,000 services in hospitals, and 100,000 Universal medical examinations. And 7,000 advanced operations and surgeries.

Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority: 31 health facilities to provide health care services to beneficiaries of Universal health insurance in South Sinai, including a medical complex, a field hospital, 6 hospitals, and 23 family medicine centers and units... and completion of full or initial accreditation for 90% of the facilities transferred to Egypt Healthcare Authority.

Chairman of the Healthcare Authority: Completion of mechanization and digital transformation of services in 17 family medicine centers and units, 4 hospital outpatient clinics with an internal department and 4 emergency departments, activation of the unified electronic laboratory system (LIS) in 20 laboratories, and electronic archiving of radiology (PACS) in 8 departments.

Head of Egypt Healthcare Authority: More than 100,000 citizens have been registered in the Universal health insurance system in South Sinai so far, with more than 80% of the citizens targeted to be registered in the governorate... and more than 3.2 billion pounds bill for the cost of the project in the governorate.

He confirms that medical tourism is a strategic goal to maximize the authority’s resources, increase the state’s foreign exchange resources, and enhance economic growth in Egypt.


The Governor of South Sinai praises the efforts of Egypt Healthcare Authority in developing the system of medical and therapeutic services for the people of South Sinai and stimulating the medical tourism movement in the governorate.

Governor of South Sinai: The Universal health insurance project has created a major breakthrough in the type and quality of health care services provided to the people of South Sinai, and protection and financial coverage for those who benefit from the services.

After the Council of Ministers, headed by Professor Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, His Excellency the Prime Minister, announced the official operation of the Universal health insurance system in South Sinai Governorate, as of January 1, 2024.

Today, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance and Hayah Kareema projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, conducted a field visit to South Sinai Governorate, in order to check on the official operation of the system in the governorate and to ensure that the best health care and service is provided to citizens in the governorate.

At the beginning of his field visit, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority, met with Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, as part of following up on the latest developments in the official operation of the Universal health insurance system in the governorate, as well as discussing the ongoing preparations for the scheduled international conference on medical tourism. It will be held under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, South Sinai, next March 7.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky stressed that we are implementing the directives of the political leadership to continue improving the health care system provided to the people of Sinai, and keeping pace with the latest developments and international standards, pointing out that more than a million medical and therapeutic services have been provided through the Authority’s health facilities to beneficiaries of Universal health insurance in South Sinai with world-class quality until Now, it includes more than 250,000 services in family medicine centers and units, more than 750,000 services in hospitals, in addition to more than 100,000 Universal medical examinations, and 7,000 various advanced operations and surgeries.

El-Sobky added that the Universal health insurance system in South Sinai Governorate is based on 31 health facilities to provide healthcare services to beneficiaries of the system’s services in the governorate, including the Fayrouz Medical Complex and Al-Tur Field Hospital, in addition to 6 hospitals: Sharm El-Sheikh International, Ras Sudr, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba, St. Catherine", and includes 23 family medicine centers and units, pointing out the completion of full or initial accreditation for 90% of the health facilities transferred to the South Sinai Care Authority, which number 27 health facilities so far, in accordance with the recognized national standards GAHAR. It is internationally recognized by the World ESQUA.

El-Sobky noted that the mechanization and digital transformation of services and the application of the HIS system have been completed in 17 family medicine centers and units affiliated with the South Sinai Health Care Authority, in addition to 4 outpatient clinics in hospitals with an internal department and 4 emergency departments, in addition to activating the unified electronic laboratory system. LIS in 20 laboratories, and the PACS/RIS radiology electronic archiving system in 8 departments.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky pointed out that more than 100,000 citizens have registered in the Universal health insurance system in South Sinai so far, more than 80% of the citizens targeted to be registered in the governorate. He also pointed out that the bill for the cost of the Universal health insurance project in the governorate exceeded $3,000. 2 billion pounds included the cost of developing the infrastructure of health facilities, medical and non-medical equipment, and the trial operation of the system in the governorate, in addition to the cost of developing the information infrastructure, mechanization, and digital transformation of services.
