The Healthcare Authority, led by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, has announced significant achievements in ophthalmology services, with over 1.3 million specialized eye care services provided across the Canal and Upper Egypt regions. This milestone has been achieved through the Port Said Eye Hospital and Aswan Specialized Eye Hospital, in alignment with the Authority’s strategy to expand comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services nationwide.

Port Said Eye Hospital: A Regional Center of Excellence in Corneal Transplants

Dr. El-Sobky emphasized that Port Said Eye Hospital stands as a leading medical facility under the Healthcare Authority in Port Said, having provided over 1.25 million medical services since joining the Universal Health Insurance system. The hospital serves as a regional referral center for corneal transplants in the Canal region, offering a full range of specialized ophthalmic services, including:

  • Retinal detachment surgery
  • Cataract and glaucoma treatment
  • Strabismus correction
  • Cosmetic eye surgeries

These services contribute significantly to enhancing specialized healthcare in Port Said.

Additionally, the hospital implements state-of-the-art sterilization techniques using plasma technology, ensuring a safe, infection-free environment. This achievement has earned it international recognition from the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network, making it the second government hospital in Egypt to receive this accreditation, following Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital.

Aswan Specialized Eye Hospital: A Center for Advanced Eye Care in Upper Egypt

Since joining the Universal Health Insurance system in 2022, Aswan Specialized Eye Hospital has established itself as a pioneering ophthalmic care facility in Upper Egypt. It offers specialized medical services to residents of the region, including:

  • Pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus correction
