The Chairman of the Health Care Authority stresses the importance of cooperation with JICA to transfer updated systems to improve the quality of health care and localize the latest international expertise to sustain the quality of service. Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, President of the General Authority for Health Care and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance and Decent Life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, met with a high-level delegation from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at the Authority’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, in conjunction with the celebration of the 70th anniversary. One year since the establishment of Egyptian-Japanese relations to enhance cooperation.

The delegation included Dr. Tobi Makoto, Senior Advisor on Health Financing and Healthcare System, JICA Headquarters, Ms. Takahashi Sonoko, Deputy Director of Human Development, JICA Headquarters, Ms. Ito Tomomi, JICA Representative in Egypt, Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Director of JICA Programs in Cairo, Dr. Shaima Kamel, Health Policy Advisor at JICA Cairo Office, Ms. Tsuda Kanako, Partnership Coordination Expert for Universal Health Insurance at JICA.

The meeting discussed the most important results and outcomes of the fruitful cooperation between the Healthcare Authority and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), most notably the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in Hospitals (EH-QIPS) project, which included 50 Egyptian government hospitals to implement the latest quality and safety standards using the Japanese approach, as well as the completion of Preparing training manuals for trainers, and reviewing the results of the project.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky stressed the strength of Egyptian-Japanese relations in cooperation and exchange of experiences in various fields, especially health care, expressing his aspiration for more fruitful and constructive cooperation with Japan during the coming period, stressing that universal health coverage is the basis for comprehensive and sustainable growth.

For its part, the high-level JICA delegation praised the achievements of the General Authority for Health Care in the file of improving the health care system in Egypt, in all aspects, whether developing health services, mechanization and digital transformation of services, applying quality and patient safety systems, and other axes on which it was based. The authority is to achieve its vision of providing an advanced model of health care in Egypt with international quality. The delegation also confirmed more cooperation between the Egyptian and Japanese sides during the coming period.

On the part of the General Authority for Health Care, a number of the authority’s leaders participated in the meeting, in addition to directors and general supervisors of the files of quality, infection control, international cooperation, external relations, and international partnerships at the authority.
