The Egypt Health Care Authority has announced the completion of over 3 million comprehensive medical examinations in the governorates where the universal health insurance system is implemented.
The Egypt Health Care Authority stated that the comprehensive medical examination is carried out regularly and free of charge for beneficiaries of the universal health insurance system. These examinations include clinical assessments and laboratory tests, starting with a nursing evaluation and measuring vital signs, followed by examinations by family physicians and dentists, as well as a range of medical and blood tests.
The comprehensive medical examination encompasses all age groups and adheres to the latest global updates and international practices. The frequency of the free comprehensive medical examination for beneficiaries of the universal health insurance system will be updated based on the patient's age and accompanying diseases.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chief of the Egypt Health Care Authority and Supervisor General of the Universal Health Insurance and Hayat Kareema projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the comprehensive medical examination is a right for every citizen. It serves as an early detection measure for chronic diseases and is consistent with the presidential initiatives conducted under the campaign "100 Million Health". He noted that the comprehensive medical examinations for beneficiaries of the new universal health insurance system in the governorates are carried out through 278 family health units and centers under the Egypt Health Care Authority, in addition to door-to-door campaigns for beneficiaries who are unable to reach these units and centers.
The Chief of the Authority highlighted that the examinations included in the comprehensive medical check aim to early detect chronic diseases and their complications through various tests (blood pressure measurement, dental examination, hemoglobin level testing, blood type determination through RH & ABO testing, and random blood sugar testing). If high blood pressure or elevated blood sugar levels are detected, a full set of tests is performed, including triglycerides, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), kidney functions, fundus examination, and electrocardiogram (ECG). If there is a high risk detected in these tests, an echocardiogram ("echo") is performed to ensure the heart's health and the overall health of the beneficiary. Furthermore, if chronic heart diseases are confirmed, the patient is referred to one of the hospitals under the Egypt Health Care Authority in their governorate for advanced examinations and necessary medical treatment.
