Coinciding with the celebrations of Sinai Liberation Day, the Egypt Healthcare Authority showcases the achievements of the Universal Health Insurance System in South Sinai Governorate since the inauguration of the system by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic.

The Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority stated that His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attaches great importance to the people of Sinai, noting the major development leap witnessed in the Sinai governorates and the significant improvements in services provided to citizens.

The Chairman of the Authority emphasized that the efforts to develop Sinai affirm its position at the forefront of Egypt’s comprehensive and sustainable development map targeted by the state and the political leadership across all regions of the country, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, especially in the Sinai Peninsula given its special importance to Egypt's national security.

The Chairman of the Authority highlighted that the healthcare facilities affiliated with the Egypt Healthcare Authority in South Sinai, the fourth governorate to implement the Universal Health Insurance System, have provided 2.4 million distinguished medical and therapeutic services through 27 healthcare facilities operating according to global quality standards. These services range from comprehensive medical examinations and primary healthcare services to advanced diagnostic services and major surgical interventions, exceeding 13,000 surgeries performed with the latest technologies and medical practices and achieving international success rates, with the beneficiary not bearing more than 450 EGP as a contribution to the surgery cost, regardless of the total cost.

He added that the healthcare facilities under the Authority’s umbrella in South Sinai include six hospitals (Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, Ras Sedr Central Hospital, El-Tor Minor Hospital, El-Fayrouz Medical Complex, Saint Catherine Hospital, and Taba Hospital), with a total bed capacity exceeding 400 beds, covering inpatient, emergency, and intensive and intermediate care services.

He continued that the number of registered citizens under the Universal Health Insurance System in South Sinai exceeded 140,000, while the comprehensive medical examination coverage exceeded 65%, and the family medicine services exceeded 400,000 services provided by family health centers affiliated with the Authority in the governorate.

He pointed out that the number of healthcare facilities affiliated with the Authority that have received full or initial accreditation in South Sinai has reached 20 facilities, according to the national accreditation standards (GAHAR) recognized by the international ESCWA, noting that the total investment cost for the implementation of the Universal Health Coverage system in South Sinai amounted to 3.280 billion EGP, covering infrastructure, medical, and non-medical equipment.

He added that Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital is equipped with the latest medical equipment and qualified healthcare cadres capable of implementing major medical tourism programs. It is the only government hospital in Sharm El-Sheikh that provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) devices for immediate treatment of diving-related emergencies and marine activity injuries, as well as sports injury treatments, noting that the HBOT device has shown impressive results in accelerating wound healing, especially among foreign visitors.

He noted that Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital is the first public hospital in Egypt to receive the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for healthcare quality and is internationally recognized by the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) Network. The healthcare facilities of the Egypt Healthcare Authority in South Sinai, led by Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, participated in providing medical services during the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27.
