Dr. Ahmed Al-Sebki, President of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, met with Dr. Ronald LaVatar, CEO of the International Hospital Federation, at the headquarters of the Egypt Healthcare Authority in the New Administrative Capital, on the sidelines of the Egypt Healthcare Authority's 5th Annual Forum, which was held under the theme "Towards Global Excellence in Healthcare Services" to mark the fifth anniversary of the official launch of the Universal Health Insurance System.
Dr. Al-Sebki and Dr. LaVatar discussed ways to enhance cooperation to support the development of healthcare systems in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean region, in alignment with Egypt's political directives. Dr. LaVatar also presented Dr. Al-Sebki with the Golden Award for Health Sustainability, Awareness, and Social Responsibility, following the authority’s recognition for its distinguished efforts in sustainability and healthcare.
They also discussed preparations for the upcoming meetings of the International Hospital Federation, which are scheduled to be held in India at the end of February 2025. Dr. Al-Sebki expressed his enthusiasm about hosting the 49th Forum of the Federation in Egypt in 2026, emphasizing that Egypt has become a leading destination for healthcare both regionally and globally.
Regarding future cooperation, Dr. Al-Sebki highlighted the importance of continuing collaboration with the Federation to advance therapeutic services, transfer advanced expertise, and implement modern technologies and artificial intelligence to achieve the best global practices. He also mentioned strengthening cooperation with the Federation and the Geneva Center for Sustainability in Switzerland to support sustainability initiatives in healthcare and foster innovation, while emphasizing the authority’s commitment to partnering with global health institutions to develop the healthcare system.
For his part, Dr. LaVatar expressed his satisfaction with participating in the Egypt Healthcare Authority’s 5th Annual Forum and looked forward to many more visits to Egypt and the authority’s health facilities in the coming periods to deepen mutual cooperation. Dr. LaVatar praised the rapid progress in healthcare in Egypt, stating that the Egypt Healthcare Authority provides a role model in managing and operating health facilities according to the highest global standards.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hani Rashid, Vice President of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, Dr. Ahmed Hamad, Senior Advisor to the President of the Authority for Health Policies and Systems, and Director of the Technical Office of the President, Dr. Riham Salama, Director of the International Cooperation Department, Dr. Mazen Alaa El-Din, General Supervisor of Cooperation with International Development Organizations, and Assistant Director of the International Cooperation Department.
