On behalf of Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Healthcare Authority and Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project...
Dr. Riham El-Shenawy, Director of International Cooperation at the Healthcare Authority, was a key speaker in a panel discussion titled "The Importance of Public-Private Partnerships in Creating a Successful Health Tourism Model."
The event occurred as part of the second edition of the Global Conference on Population, Health, and Human Development (PHDC'24), held under the slogan "Human Development for a Sustainable Future," which runs until October 25 in the New Administrative Capital.
During the panel discussion, the Director of International Cooperation at the Healthcare Authority highlighted that the relationship with the private sector is complementary, not competitive. She pointed out that the Egyptian government has adopted a package of legislation to facilitate the reception of foreign patients, and has developed strategies to enhance Egypt's role as a regional center for health tourism in collaboration with various ministries and government agencies.
She noted the contribution of strategic partnerships and alliances between the public and private sectors in stimulating innovation, investment, and continuous improvement of healthcare services for patients. This collaboration includes sharing expertise and advanced technologies, such as the use of state-of-the-art medical equipment and health information technology. It has allowed for the development of new treatment protocols and the training of government staff by experts from the private sector, which enhances the quality of services provided to international patients. These partnerships contribute to attracting new investments, improving health infrastructure, and implementing advanced solutions like telemedicine and digital patient management, which bolsters Egypt's international reputation as a distinguished medical treatment destination.
The panel discussion included Dr. Yomna El-Bahar, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Chairperson of the Medical Centers Secretariat; Dr. Asmaa Badran, Chair of the Medical Tourism Technical Committee at the Ministry of Health and Population; Dr. Mohamed Hablass, Regional Director of Saudi German Hospitals in Egypt and North Africa; and Mr. Moataz Sedky, General Manager of Travco.
