The Healthcare Authority, under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Board and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, has announced significant progress in the digitalization and automation of its healthcare facilities in the Universal Health Insurance (UHI) governorates. This initiative is aligned with Egypt’s Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2030, aiming to enhance healthcare service efficiency and quality through advanced technological solutions.
Nationwide Digital Transformation of Healthcare Services
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky emphasized that the implementation of digital systems across healthcare facilities in the first-phase UHI governorates—Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Aswan, and Suez—is a major leap forward in healthcare delivery. The use of modern technological systems has enhanced accuracy, efficiency, and speed in medical services, optimizing resource management and improving operational effectiveness.
Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the following key digitalization milestones:
- Full automation of 255 family medicine centers and units (100%), making them an advanced model in primary healthcare services, the first line of defense in the UHI system.
- 98% completion rate for digitalization of outpatient clinics, significantly enhancing service accessibility and efficiency.
- Digitalization of 29 inpatient departments and 30 emergency units, ensuring seamless patient management and emergency response capabilities.
Specialized Digital Advancements in Healthcare Services
In the specialized healthcare sector, the Healthcare Authority has achieved remarkable progress, particularly in dialysis services and surgical operations:
- Automation of 20 dialysis units, improving the management of renal disease treatments and enhancing patient outcomes.
- Digital transformation of 26 surgical departments, integrating cutting-edge medical technologies to optimize surgical efficiency and success rates.
Advancements in Medical Imaging and Laboratory Systems
Dr. El-Sobky also noted substantial progress in automated diagnostic services, essential for precise medical decision-making:
- 98% automation of 279 laboratories, utilizing the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for faster, more accurate diagnostics.
- 98% automation of 82 radiology departments, implementing the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for instant digital access to medical imaging, significantly enhancing diagnostic accuracy and physician efficiency.
