The General Authority for Healthcare joins the world in the events of World Cancer Day, which is commemorated by the World Health Organization at this time each year, with the 2024 events under the theme "Closing the care gap for cancer patients for a cancer-free world.. The time to act is now."
Coinciding with the day, the General Authority for Healthcare, led by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Authority and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance and Decent Life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, highlighted its efforts in treating tumors and the diverse services provided by its hospitals in the provinces implementing the comprehensive health insurance system, whether diagnostic or treatment services, which amounted to 75,000 medical and therapeutic services during 2023.
The Healthcare Authority's statement clarified that the comprehensive medical service packages for disease treatment include advanced diagnostic services for accurate and rapid detection of tumors, diagnostic and radiological examinations such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography scans, as well as laboratory tests such as blood and tissue analyses to detect the presence of tumors.
Regarding the comprehensive therapeutic services for tumors, the Authority's hospitals in the provinces implementing comprehensive health coverage offer chemotherapy and radiation therapy for tumors that cannot be surgically removed or to limit their spread, as well as highly precise surgical interventions to remove tumors, whether in adults or children, completely or partially, using advanced surgical techniques to increase the success of the operation, through specialized medical teams comprising oncologists, surgeons, and distinguished specialists in diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, President of the Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance and Decent Life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, emphasized the hospitals' attention and the work teams' efforts to enhance the psychological and social aspect of patients and provide psychological and social support during their treatment period, alongside meticulous attention to the therapeutic aspect, as tumors are one of the most common diseases in the current era, requiring specialized and effective treatment to minimize their negative impact on public health.
He pointed to the main hospitals offering specialized and comprehensive services for cancer treatment in the provinces implementing comprehensive health insurance, covering the Canal and South Upper Egypt regions, including the Al-Shifa Medical Complex and Al-Nasr Specialty Hospital in Port Said, the Ismailia Medical Complex and the Precision Surgery and Specialties Hospital in Abu Khalifa in Ismailia, and the Luxor International Medical Complex, Karnak International Hospital, and Isis Specialty Hospital in Luxor, affirming the Authority's efforts to improve the quality of care provided to cancer patients, and invest in advanced medical technology and employ qualified medical staff from university professors and oncology consultants to ensure the provision of distinguished medical service according to international quality standards.
He highlighted that PET CT scans are offered at Al-Nasr Specialty Hospital in Port Said among the services provided to beneficiaries of the comprehensive health insurance system in the Canal region provinces, which is one of the most important examinations to ensure the most accurate diagnosis in the shortest time for patients, conducted under the supervision of a distinguished and trained medical and technical team according to the latest medical and therapeutic protocols.
The President of the Healthcare Authority noted: The Healthcare Authority participated through family medicine units and centers in the President's initiative for early detection and treatment of cancer in its first and second phases, aiming to detect the disease in early stages, which leads to higher cure rates and reduced mortality rates from these diseases, as well as to eliminate cervical cancer in Egypt by 2030. We were able to conduct more than 30,000 examinations in Port Said and South Sinai as part of the first phase, and 20,000 examinations as part of the second phase of the initiative in Luxor and Ismailia, totaling over 50,000 medical examinations within the President's initiative for early detection and treatment of cancer.
