Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky: The campaign targets three priority patient groups in governorates implementing the Universal Health Insurance System

The Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA), chaired by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, has announced the results of the first week of its national campaign “Healthy Ramadan for the Whole Family.” The initiative focuses on home-based medical follow-ups for individuals with chronic conditions in governorates where the Universal Health Insurance (UHI) system is in effect.

According to Dr. El-Sobky, the campaign successfully reached more than 110,000 beneficiaries during its first week across the six UHI governorates: Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, and Aswan. This achievement represents over 25% of the campaign’s overall target.

Target Groups and Health Priorities

The campaign focuses on three primary patient groups:

  • Individuals with diabetes
  • Individuals with hypertension
  • Individuals diagnosed with both diabetes and hypertension

These groups are prioritized due to their increased vulnerability during Ramadan, particularly in managing chronic conditions under fasting conditions.

The Campaign's Three Strategic Pillars

Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the campaign’s three key components:

  1. Home-based Follow-up for Chronic Disease Patients:

    • Special emphasis is placed on reaching patients with limited mobility, especially the elderly, people with disabilities, and financially vulnerable groups who may face challenges accessing healthcare facilities.
    • A total of 575 mobile medical teams have been deployed across the six governorates to conduct in-home assessments and provide continuous follow-up.
    • The campaign aims to reach 440,000 individuals with chronic diseases over the course of Ramadan.
  2. Preliminary Screening and Early Detection:

    • Community-based screenings are being conducted in high-traffic public areas to identify previously undiagnosed cases of diabetes and hypertension.
    • Individuals with abnormal results are referred to EHA-affiliated primary healthcare facilities for further evaluation and treatment initiation.
  3. Public Awareness and Health Education:

    • The campaign delivers educational sessions and resources for patients and their families on how to manage chronic conditions effectively during Ramadan.
    • The objective is to encourage the adoption of healthier lifestyles and reduce the risk of complications associated with chronic illnesses.

Sustained Outreach Throughout Ramadan

The campaign, launched at the beginning of Ramadan and continuing until the end of the holy month, forms part of EHA’s broader strategy to promote preventive care and early intervention. Through its home-based model and mobile screening units, the initiative aims to reduce health risks among vulnerable populations and alleviate the burden on emergency services during Ramadan.

By combining early detection, personalized follow-up, and community health education, “Healthy Ramadan for the Whole Family” supports EHA’s mission of delivering comprehensive, high-quality care under the Universal Health Insurance umbrella—ensuring no patient is left behind, especially during one of the most spiritually and physically demanding months of the year.
