From Port Said to Ismailia: Egypt Healthcare Authority Chairman Continues Field Visits Following 2025 Appointments Movement

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, conducted a series of field visits across healthcare facilities in Ismailia Governorate. This initiative comes in the wake of the Authority’s comprehensive 2025 appointments movement.

Dr. El-Sobky met with Major General Pilot Akram Mohamed Galal, Governor of Ismailia, to discuss strategies for enhancing healthcare services in the governorate. During their meeting, the governor commended the Authority’s healthcare facilities as a distinguished model for advancing Universal Health Insurance services and maintaining high-quality standards. He emphasized the importance of sustaining this excellence to align with the national vision of comprehensive and advanced healthcare for all societal segments.

As part of the visit, Dr. El-Sobky and Governor Galal honored Dr. Mohamed Sami Hamed for his exceptional contributions during his tenure as Director of the Authority’s Ismailia branch. Dr. Hamed’s leadership and dedication significantly elevated healthcare standards and services under the Universal Health Insurance system.

Field Inspections

Dr. El-Sobky continued his visit by inspecting the Abu Khalifa Emergency and Specialized Surgery Hospital, where he reviewed operational workflows and assessed the quality of healthcare services provided to patients. He also evaluated emergency, intensive care, and inpatient services at the Ismailia Medical Complex, emphasizing adherence to quality standards to ensure citizen satisfaction.

The Chairman assessed the hospital’s digital systems, noting their pivotal role in enhancing efficiency for both patients and healthcare providers. He engaged with the medical teams to gather insights on the impact of electronic systems in streamlining operations and improving response times to patients’ needs.

Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the pivotal role of citizen satisfaction as a core indicator of the Universal Health Insurance system’s success, gathering feedback directly from patients about their experiences with the provided healthcare services.

Key Achievements

Dr. El-Sobky reported that the Abu Khalifa Emergency and Specialized Surgery Hospital has delivered nearly 1 million medical and therapeutic services since its inauguration. These include 110,000 emergency services, 213,000 outpatient consultations, and over 15,000 surgeries and interventions. The hospital, which houses 5 state-of-the-art operating rooms and 130 advanced beds, specializes in orthopedics, oncology, chest surgery, maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, and general surgeries. It was also the first hospital in Ismailia to earn national accreditation recognized by the global ISQua standards.

Upcoming Developments

Concluding his visit, Dr. El-Sobky announced the upcoming inauguration of El-Tal El-Kabir Hospital in Ismailia within two months. The facility will feature specialized dialysis services, significantly enhancing healthcare provisions for Universal Health Insurance beneficiaries in the Canal Region.

Dr. El-Sobky was joined by senior Authority officials, including Dr. Amir El-Telwany, Executive Director of the Authority; Major General Hesham Shendy, Advisor for Health Informatics and Telemedicine; Dr. Wael Omran, Advisor for Supply Chain Management; Dr. Mostafa Shaaban, Head of Central Healthcare and Therapeutic Administration; and Dr. Mohamed Sami Hamed, Deputy Executive Director for Operations and Resources.

Additionally, Dr. Mohamed Badr, Head of Secondary and Tertiary Care; Dr. Ayman Rekha, Head of the Canal Region and Director of the South Sinai Branch; Dr. Ali Refaat, Director of the Ismailia Branch; and other local healthcare leaders accompanied the Chairman, reflecting the unified efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Ismailia and beyond.
