"We were very surprised by the advanced level of healthcare and the quality of services provided in the hospitals of the Egypt Healthcare Authority in Luxor. We are very pleased to have had this opportunity to see such a high level of medical services," said Mr. Ito Yoshihiro, the Japanese Consul, and Mr. Shimizu Itsu, Counselor and Medical Attaché of the Japanese Embassy in Cairo, in a statement at the conclusion of their two-day visit to Egypt Healthcare Authority facilities in Luxor.
The Egypt Healthcare Authority statement indicated that Dr. Ahmed Al-Borai, Head of the Upper Egypt Region and General Supervisor of the Luxor Branch, Dr. Mohamed Al-Sanafi, Director of Secondary and Tertiary Care, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hadi, Director of Secondary and Tertiary Care at the Luxor Branch, welcomed the Japanese Consul and the Medical Attaché during a tour of several Egypt Healthcare Authority facilities in Luxor.
According to the Authority's statement, the visit began on the first day at the Authority's main branch, where the Head of the Upper Egypt Region gave a presentation on the facilities of the Authority in Luxor, the services provided, and the number of beneficiaries served. He highlighted the central role played by the hospitals in promoting medical tourism under the brand "We Care for You in Egypt," noting that Luxor hospitals have so far welcomed 720 tourists from 42 countries this year.
The visit continued with a tour of Isis Specialized Hospital for Women and Obstetrics, where the delegation toured the various departments of the hospital, starting from the emergency and hotel rooms, passing through radiology and laboratory services, to the neonatal units and intensive care. The delegation also received a detailed explanation of the services offered, the service delivery process, and the electronic system in place.
The Japanese Consul and Medical Attaché expressed their admiration and satisfaction with the advanced level of medical services, emphasizing their amazement at the facilities and services of the hospital, which met the highest international quality standards.
The visit continued the following day with a tour of Karnak International Hospital, covering the radiology, laboratory, national emergency room, and intensive care departments, as well as inspecting the neonatal units under preparation. The tour concluded with a visit to the inpatient and hotel rooms, where the Japanese delegation expressed their great admiration for the Nile view from the hotel rooms and the high-quality facilities, noting the comfort provided to patients throughout their treatment.
The statement added that the visit included the new facilities under development at the Luxor International Medical Complex, which will further increase the capacity of the complex, reflecting positively on providing more healthcare services for beneficiaries under the universal health insurance system.
At the end of the visit, the Japanese delegation expressed their gratitude to the Head of the Upper Egypt Region for the opportunity to witness this level of services. They were highly impressed with the adherence to international quality standards, compliance with infection control, occupational safety, and health standards, and the special attention paid to patients, particularly the elderly, by providing specialized facilities for them.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, appreciated the commendation from the Japanese Consul and the Medical Attaché of the Japanese Embassy. He stated that this praise reflects the quality of healthcare services provided by the Authority's facilities, particularly those in Luxor, which has led to such international recognition and trust in treating expatriates in its facilities.
Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the importance of leveraging the capabilities of the Authority's hospitals to provide distinguished medical care to visitors to Egypt, which contributes to diversifying the Authority's resources and benefits the beneficiaries of the universal health insurance system, while also enhancing the internal working environment.
He emphasized the Authority's commitment to supporting the medical tourism sector in Egypt and promoting the Authority's medical tourism project under the brand "We Care for You in Egypt," in line with the leadership's vision to position Egypt on the map of health tourism, transforming the current concept of wellness tourism into therapeutic tourism. He further stated: "We have facilities that match the quality of major global healthcare institutions, which qualifies us to compete in Luxor, Aswan, and South Sinai as attractive destinations for foreign visitors.
