The Egypt Healthcare Authority Announces Key Pharmacy Management and Drug Administration Initiatives for 2024
The Egypt Healthcare Authority has outlined its roadmap for pharmacy and drug administration in 2024, focusing on several key initiatives. These initiatives include the automation of pharmacies, digital integration, and the implementation of green pharmacy practices across all facilities within the universal health insurance system governorates. Additionally, the roadmap emphasizes the expansion of drug information centers, which will contribute to the preparation of a drug compendium, as well as regular training programs aimed at developing pharmacists' skills in evidence-based practices and emerging therapies.
Dr. Ahmed El Sabki, the chief of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, highlighted the plan to establish a comprehensive guide for the proper use of genetic testing and to set standards for its practical application as part of the Authority's strategy by 2027. This includes full-genome sequencing in diagnosing genetic and rare diseases, marking a significant leap in healthcare.
The chief underscored the commitment to providing all technological means to ensure the optimal application of the latest global developments and the newest therapeutic protocols in the pharmaceutical field. This commitment is aimed at enhancing the management of medication and bolstering clinical research in this area.
Dr. Sherif Kamal, the pharmacy advisor to the chief of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, pointed out that identifying patients' genes reinforces the concept known as "personalized medicine" or "precision medicine." This approach tailors treatment based on individual genetic profiles, improving treatment effectiveness, reducing side effects, and enhancing patient outcomes.
The Authority is also focused on supporting research and development and encouraging pharmacists to engage in research projects related to clinical pharmacy. Plans are in place to establish a platform for sharing research findings within the Authority, which will eventually extend to the broader healthcare community.
These initiatives reflect the Egypt Healthcare Authority's commitment to adopting advanced technologies and innovative practices to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to beneficiaries across the governorates covered by universal health insurance in 2024.
