Launching the activities of the "First Annual International Conference for Excellence in Neurosurgery"

Chairman of the Health Care Authority:
• We have performed 10,000 neurosurgical interventions since the launch of the comprehensive health insurance system, 75% of which were advanced and skilled surgeries, and 6,000 surgeries during the past year, 1,700 of which were advanced surgeries

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, the activities of the first annual international conference for excellence in neurosurgery, organized by the General Authority for Health Care, were launched today, with the high-level participation of senior international experts in the field of neurology and neurosurgery, a group of professors and consultants, a number of representatives of international health organizations, senior health sector officials, heads of universities and medical centers, and representatives of academic and research bodies In addition to a group of health and scientific leaders in Egypt.
Professor Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, stressed during his speech at the conference that what has been achieved today on the ground in Egypt's hospitals represents a real shift in the history of the health sector, noting that this remarkable progress was once a distant dream. He added that Egypt has made great strides in developing its health system Precise and advanced operations are now performed within its hospitals with success and recovery rates comparable to those in major international hospitals, which reflects the amount of efforts made and investment in health infrastructure and qualified medical personnel.
His Excellency explained that subspecialties such as neurology were previously a major challenge, but state support and presidential health initiatives have brought about a qualitative shift in this field, noting that more than 183,000 cases of neurology patients have been treated with the latest medical methods, including 14,000 successful brain catheters, which is an achievement credited to the health system.
He also pointed out that the initiative to end waiting lists is one of the most important initiatives that changed the face of health care in Egypt, as more than 3 million citizens have benefited from it so far at a cost exceeding 23 billion pounds, which contributed to accelerating the pace of providing medical services, reducing the burdens on citizens, and saving the lives of thousands who were waiting for critical medical procedures.

 

At the end of his speech, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar praised the efforts made by the General Authority for Health Care, stressing that it represents a civilized institutional model with advanced thinking that is in line with the state's orientations towards digital transformation and expanding the scope of comprehensive health coverage, appreciating the Authority's role in coordinating with various national and international bodies to improve the quality of health services provided to the Egyptian citizen.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister witnessed the signing of an important cooperation protocol between the General Authority for Health Care and the Egyptian Health Council, in order to accept batches for training in the Egyptian Board program and develop treatment protocols.
At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Ahmed El Sobky congratulated Professor Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, on the occasion of winning the prestigious Leadership Award from the European Council of African and Middle Eastern Companies (ECAM), in appreciation of his exceptional contributions to the development of the Egyptian health sector, his leadership of the Executive Council of Arab Health Ministers over 4 years, and the important efforts of the Ministry within the framework of implementing the directives of the political leadership towards achieving comprehensive health coverage and localizing the pharmaceutical and medical supplies industry Stressing that this honor is an international testimony to the achievements made during the era of political leadership in terms of infrastructure, legislation, quality, and digital transformation in the health sector.

 


During his speech, Dr. Ahmed El Sobky expressed his pride in the launch of this first international scientific event of its kind in Egypt, under the umbrella of the General Authority for Health Care, as a platform for exchanging medical expertise in the most precise surgical specialties. He stressed that the Authority has achieved tangible accomplishments in neurosurgery within its facilities, noting that more than 10,000 precise surgical interventions have been performed since the launch of the comprehensive health insurance system, of which about 75% are advanced and highly skilled operations The number of surgeries last year reached 6,000, including 1,700 skilled surgeries.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Health Care and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, pointed out that the specialty of neurosurgery has witnessed an unprecedented boom within the Authority's facilities, thanks to the great support of the political leadership and the Ministry of Health and Population, which was reflected in providing hospitals with the latest developments in the world in microsurgical techniques, most notably neurosurgical endoscopes and advanced surgical microscopes Which contributed to improving the quality of services provided and achieving outstanding treatment results for patients.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky stressed that the Authority now leads a system that embodies medical progress in the most precise specialties, at the heart of which are neurosurgery, stressing that developing human cadres represents a major axis in the Authority's strategy. He added: "Over the course of two days, we implemented 32 intensive workshops, through which we aimed to train and qualify a large number of doctors on the latest techniques and diagnoses of neurosurgery, in line with global developments in this field."


For his part, Dr. Hamdi Al-Nabawi, Chairman of the Conference, Member of the Medical Advisory Council of the Healthcare Authority, and General Supervisor of the Neurology Departments at the Healthcare Authority, stressed that what has been achieved during the past few days in terms of performing qualitative surgeries in several governorates, in partnership with international experts, is an exceptional step on the path to professional excellence, stressing that "the success achieved reflects the high level reached by Egyptian medical teams in terms of skill, discipline, and integration with international expertise." Al-Nabawi added: "The time has come to establish the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery as a continental and regional center, including treatment, training, and the development of scientific research, with the presence of advanced laboratories serving various specialties of neurosurgery, which will restore Egypt's leading position in Africa and the region, and make this institute the largest and most modern in the Middle East and Africa."
The Korean expert, Professor Dr. Se-hoon Kim, one of the most prominent neurosurgeons in the world, professor and head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Korea University, director of neurospine surgery at Ansan Hospital, and an active member of a number of specialized international scientific societies, also delivered a speech

 

A speech during the conference, during which he expressed his great admiration for the level of the Egyptian teams, the medical equipment and the high professionalism of the Egyptian teams, saying: "What we saw during the surgical partnership in Port Said Governorate confirms that Egypt has a promising health infrastructure that deserves to lead the medical scene in the region," adding that this cooperation reflects a successful model in medical integration Expressing his pride in participating in performing advanced surgeries on brain tumors and spinal cord tumors using the latest technologies at Al Salam Hospital in Port Said, as part of a unique initiative that reflects the quality of services provided by the Health Care Authority under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance.


The conference is scheduled to include many scientific sessions and training workshops with wide participation from Egyptian and international experts. It will also witness the honoring of a number of icons and pioneers of the medical field in Egypt, in celebration of their contributions to developing medical services and enhancing continuing medical education, confirming Egypt's pivotal role in medical leadership regionally and internationally
