Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, met with Mr. Håkan Emsgård, Swedish Ambassador to Egypt, and representatives of leading Swedish companies in Egypt to discuss enhancing healthcare investments in Egypt.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Masoud Biouki, Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Swedish Trade and Investment Council, Ms. Joanna Norder, First Secretary for Economic Affairs and Head of Trade and Culture Promotion at the council, Professor Johan Carlson, Senior Health Advisor and former Head of the Swedish Public Health Agency, along with a delegation from the Swedish Trade and Investment Council and a group of experts and investors from Sweden.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky explained that the meeting focused on deepening and expanding Egyptian-Swedish partnerships and boosting investment opportunities in healthcare across five main pillars, including infrastructure development, medical equipment support, telehealth consultations, innovative technological solutions, artificial intelligence applications in healthcare to enhance patient experiences, health awareness programs, public health initiatives, health facility management systems, and personalized medicine for genomic disease prevention.

The Chairman emphasized the importance of fostering strategic public-private partnerships to achieve universal health coverage. He highlighted that the Egyptian market is now in a golden phase, offering an attractive environment for increased foreign investments across all sectors, particularly healthcare, which is key to achieving sustainable development.

Dr. El-Sobky commended the notable advancements Sweden has made in health innovation, emphasizing that its strong private sector and commitment to sustainable development align well with Egypt's health reform goals. He reiterated Egypt's dedication to providing a conducive investment environment to support these efforts and promote research and development in healthcare.

He also highlighted the importance of leveraging health data, mentioning that there are currently 6 million electronic medical records in the first phase of the universal health insurance implementation. He stated that 20 million electronic prescriptions are issued monthly, and the second phase will triple the output of the first, covering 15 million citizens in five provinces: Minya, Damietta, Kafr El Sheikh, North Sinai, and Matrouh.

During the meeting, they reviewed successful Swedish partnerships with the Egypt Healthcare Authority, including collaboration with Getinge in the complete automation of operating departments and patient management cycles, as well as sustainable green operation of central sterilization units. They also discussed digital solutions and training, such as establishing the EHA GETINGE ACADEMY for technical training of medical teams.

The cooperation with Swedish company Elekta was also highlighted, focusing on modern technologies for cancer diagnosis and treatment, early tumor detection, and training the Authority's medical teams on advanced technologies for treating cancer with Gamma Knife and radiotherapy. Additionally, collaboration with AstraZeneca was discussed in the context of implementing green health facility concepts, using low-carbon footprint medicines and medical supplies, and supporting public health initiatives.

Swedish Ambassador Håkan Emsgård praised the efforts of Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky in enhancing healthcare cooperation between Egypt and Sweden, commending his commitment to continually elevate Egypt's healthcare system to a global standard. He emphasized that Egypt is a key partner in advancing health investments and advanced technology in the region.

Mr. Masoud Biouki, Director of the Middle East and North Africa at the Swedish Trade and Investment Council, expressed the eagerness of major Swedish companies to deepen their cooperation with the Egypt Healthcare Authority, aiming to implement sustainable health solutions and expand health investments. He highlighted that Swedish companies are well-prepared to support Egypt's reform initiatives.

Representing the Egypt Healthcare Authority at the meeting were Dr. Amir El-Telwany, Executive Director of the Authority; Dr. Ahmed Hammad, Advisor to the Chairman for Health Policies and Systems, and Director of the General Technical Office; Dr. Sherine Ibrahim Allam, International Partnerships and Planning Expert; and Dr. Mazen Alaa El-Din, General Supervisor for International Development Organizations and Assistant Director of the International Cooperation Department.

The Swedish delegation included leading healthcare companies such as AstraZeneca, Elekta, Getinge, Arjo, Skåne Care, GHP, and Swedish agencies such as Swedfund, the Swedish Development Finance Institution, and the Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN).
