The Chairman of Egypt Health Care Authority praises the role of USAID in supporting the development of the Egyptian healthcare system and enhancing progress and growth over 40 years.

Chairman of Egypt Health Care Authority: Launching a new partnership with the USAID-funded Economic Governance Project aims to achieve the best health experience for patients using modern technology and ensuring effective and comprehensive services that meet their expectations and enhance their role in continuous development.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Health Care Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, and Mr. Sean Jones, Director of the USAID Mission in Egypt, inaugurated a joint workshop titled "Innovation in Public Services in the Healthcare Sector," aimed at improving the patient experience within the authority's healthcare facilities in the governorates covered by universal health insurance.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky expressed his delight at the importance of the workshop in developing the patient journey and achieving the highest levels of patient satisfaction regarding the healthcare services provided. He praised the role of USAID in supporting the development of the Egyptian healthcare system and enhancing progress and growth over the past 40 years.

Dr. El-Sobky added that launching a new partnership with the USAID-funded Economic Governance Project aims to provide an integrated and exceptional health experience for patients using modern technology to ensure effective and comprehensive services that align with patients' aspirations and enhance their role in the continuous improvement of services.

He continued that this partnership includes the development and implementation of a tool for managing the patient journey within primary healthcare units and centers, medical complexes, and hospitals in the governorates of Port Said, Ismailia, and Luxor, where the Universal Health Insurance Law is applied. This tool enables patients to express their opinions and provide feedback on service quality, enhancing social accountability and contributing to the improvement of health services.

He explained that the workshop comes to present the results of the analysis of the current situation in the targeted governorates and discuss the recommendations for improving the patient journey. He added that the workshop reviews the results of expert analysis and discusses innovative recommendations to improve the patient experience through evaluating tools, challenges, and providing technical and advisory support from USAID.

He affirmed that the authority's ultimate goal is to ensure the delivery of high-quality health services and achieve the highest levels of beneficiary satisfaction, with satisfaction rates exceeding 91% in the authority's facilities. He also pointed out that the implementation of the primary healthcare concept was one of the key pillars of the successful development of the patient journey and maintaining public health and prevention, highlighting a 74% increase in attendance rates for these services and ongoing efforts to expand them.

He confirmed that the international patient journey evaluation project with USAID enhances the authority's standing in comprehensive and advanced healthcare, aiming to expand the evaluation of the patient experience to other governorates and improve healthcare outcomes through cooperation in multiple areas.

The workshop included a presentation of the executive summary of the analysis of the current patient journey by Dr. Ayman Sabae, CEO of Shamsia for Innovative Community Healthcare Solutions. It also featured a detailed presentation on key challenges, planned interventions, training activities, feedback management, participatory solution design, additional support areas, and facilitation of group work sessions and their outcomes.

Representing USAID, the workshop was attended by Ms. Kay Lam, Director of the Governance Office, Ms. Patricia Hunter, Deputy Director of the Governance Office, Dr. Salwa Tabbala, Senior Governance Consultant at USAID, and Dr. Shahira Hussein, Director of the Health Office.
