Head of the Health Care Authority Meets with Rwanda’s Health Minister to Discuss Prospects for Joint Cooperation and Strengthening Egyptian-Rwandan Relations in the Health Care Sector
Head of the Health Care Authority: Agreement reached to establish a contract between the Health Care Authority and the Rwandan government to receive patients from Rwanda for treatment in Health Care Authority facilities.
Head of the Health Care Authority: Cooperation with Rwanda will extend to include human resource training and the exchange of expertise in universal health coverage. He emphasized that mutual benefits from each side’s accumulated experience will support sustainable development in the health sector.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sebki, Head of the Health Care Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, met with Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, the Minister of Health of Rwanda, at the conclusion of the International Health Ministers’ Summit held in Rwanda. The meeting was attended by Consul Madonna Magdy, the Egyptian Consul in Rwanda.
During the meeting, both parties discussed prospects for mutual cooperation to enhance Egyptian-Rwandan relations in the health care sector.
Dr. Al-Sebki emphasized that the meeting resulted in an agreement to formalize a contract between the Health Care Authority and the Rwandan government, which will allow Rwandan patients to receive treatment at Health Care Authority facilities, offering comprehensive and high-quality medical services in line with global standards. This agreement is part of the effort to foster health integration between the two sides.
The Head of the Health Care Authority clarified that the cooperation would also include training human resources to enhance the capacity of the Rwandan medical staff, as well as exchanging experiences in universal health coverage. He pointed out the successful experiences of both countries in this field, emphasizing that the shared cooperation aims to strengthen health systems and help both countries benefit from each other’s accumulated expertise. This partnership would significantly improve the health services provided to the citizens of both nations and support sustainable development in the health sector.
Dr. Al-Sebki highlighted that this partnership with Rwanda is in line with the Health Care Authority's vision to promote cooperation and exchange expertise on both a regional and international scale. He also emphasized that this collaboration aligns with Egypt's commitment to supporting its African counterparts. The Health Care Authority is working through such partnerships to achieve integration in the provision of exceptional health services across Africa.
For his part, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, Rwanda’s Minister of Health, expressed his anticipation to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise with Egypt, particularly in the fields of universal health coverage, non-communicable diseases, and human capacity development in the health sector. He praised Egypt’s health care development and its notable achievements in universal health coverage and medical services according to global standards, calling Egypt’s experience a model for other African nations.
Dr. Nsanzimana also confirmed that both Egypt and Rwanda aim to achieve a shared vision for the development of the health sector in Africa, in line with the continent’s sustainable development goals. He commended the significant progress both countries have made in the fight against Hepatitis C, reflecting their shared commitment to improving public health and enhancing health systems in the region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Hamad, Senior Adviser to the Head of the Health Care Authority for Health Policies and Systems, and Dr. Riham Salama, Director of International Cooperation at the Health Care Authority.
