During the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) workshop titled "Climate Change and Infectious Diseases: From Predictions to Preparedness," the Egypt Health Care Authority participated with a series of scientific lectures in cooperation with various Arab countries and Mediterranean countries as part of the "European Union Health Security" initiative.
The Egypt Health Care Authority showcased its distinguished and pioneering experience in sustainable green transformation, highlighting its practices at Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital in South Sinai and El-Ramad Specialty Hospital in Port Said.
The Egypt Health Care Authority also presented scientific lectures during the workshop about the Authority's strategy to address the risks of infectious diseases related to climate changes.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sabki, President of the Egypt Health Care Authority, stated that the ECDC workshop serves as an ideal platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge about the latest global practices for green transformation and mechanisms to overcome challenges associated with climate changes.
Dr. El-Sabki also expressed pride in owning two facilities recognized internationally by the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network (GGHH), marking the Egypt Health Care Authority as the first governmental entity in Egypt to own two such recognized facilities.
Dr. El-Sabki praised the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control's (ECDC) commendation after selecting Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, affiliated with the Egypt Health Care Authority in South Sinai, to conduct a field visit to showcase sustainability and green transformation projects at the hospital.
The Egypt Health Care Authority participated in the international workshop "Climate Change and Infectious Diseases: From Predictions to Preparedness," organized by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in collaboration with the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO-EMRO), held in Sharm El-Sheikh during May, as part of the "European Union on Health Security" initiative.
The first scientific lecture focused on the Egypt Health Care Authority's strategy to combat the risks of infectious diseases related to climate changes. Dr. Ahmed Hammad, Advisor to the President of the Egypt Health Care Authority for Health Policies and Systems, provided a comprehensive analysis of the increased risks of infectious diseases due to climate change, discussed strategies to handle these challenges, and emphasized the importance of international cooperation and information exchange between countries.
Dr. Nermin Ashour, the General Supervisor of Sustainability and Green Transformation at the Egypt Health Care Authority, delivered a lecture titled "The Experience of the Egypt Health Care Authority in Adopting Sustainability Practices and Green Transformation in Health Systems Towards a Better Health Future." She outlined the steps taken by the Authority to implement sustainability principles in healthcare institutions, such as improving the efficiency of natural resource use, reducing medical waste, and enhancing the use of renewable energy. She also discussed the challenges faced and the innovative solutions adopted, leading to the international recognition of two facilities by the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network (GGHH).
Dr. Ahmed El-Sabki highlighted the importance of the Egypt Health Care Authority's active participation in the international workshop on "Climate Change and Infectious Diseases: From Predictions to Preparedness." This participation underscores the Authority's commitment to enhancing international cooperation and exchanging expertise on the impacts of climate change on public health, especially infectious diseases. It also aims to learn from the best global practices and develop effective strategies to combat health risks arising from climate changes, thereby enhancing Egypt's readiness to face future health challenges and achieving health security for its citizens.
Dr. El-Sabki reaffirmed pride in showcasing the successful experiences of the Egypt Health Care Authority in sustainable green transformation during the workshop, which took place within the framework of the European Union's health security initiative. The Authority has two facilities that have gained international recognition from the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network (GGHH), namely Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital and El-Ramad in Port Said, making it the first governmental entity in Egypt to have such recognized facilities.
He also appreciated the ECDC's commendation following their choice to conduct a field visit to Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital to demonstrate the sustainability and green transformation projects underway, which showcase environmental innovations and green initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.
The international workshop on "Climate Change and Infectious Diseases: From Predictions to Preparedness" focused on the impact of climate change on infectious diseases in the Southern Neighbourhood Policy countries of the European Union. It discussed the effects of climate change on disease transmission and response to emerging risks, featuring historical perspectives, case studies, and future forecasts, with participation from experts from the European Union, Southern Neighbourhood countries, several Arab states, and the Mediterranean region, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Health and Population, partner organizations, and disease prevention and control centers in Africa and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.
