The Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority witnesses the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Authority and Merck Germany ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Authority and Merck Germany.

The Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority: Enhancing scientific research, developing unified treatment protocols, and creating a roadmap for the treatment of thyroid diseases, cancer, and multiple sclerosis to improve health outcomes, along with strengthening the capabilities of medical staff, early diagnosis, data analysis using artificial intelligence, and scientific research — these are the main points of cooperation.

General Manager and Executive Director of Merck: The MoU aims to develop a comprehensive treatment protocol over three years, focusing particularly on hypothyroidism. The cooperation with the Authority reflects Merck's commitment to enhancing national efforts to support the quality of healthcare services in Egypt.


Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Egypt Healthcare Authority and Merck. Dr. Amir El-Telwany, Executive Director of the Authority, represented the Egypt Healthcare Authority, while Dr. Sherif El-Sadawy, General Manager and Executive Director of Merck Germany, represented the company. This took place during the Fifth Annual Forum of the Egypt Healthcare Authority.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky confirmed that the MoU represents a strategic step towards developing unified treatment protocols for several diseases, including thyroid diseases, growth hormone disorders, multiple sclerosis, and cancer, aiming to provide high-quality healthcare services. He explained that the cooperation involves creating a comprehensive roadmap starting from the patient's journey within the healthcare facility, developing evidence-based treatment plans, educating patients on their treatment plans, and evaluating the effectiveness and safety of these plans to ensure improved health outcomes.

The Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority clarified that the MoU covers several key areas, including empowering medical staff through advanced training programs, enhancing early diagnosis of diseases, raising public health awareness, and using artificial intelligence techniques to analyze medical data and create dashboards to support evidence-based decision-making.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing partnerships with the private sector to support scientific research and the development of treatments using modern technology. He pointed out that the Egypt Healthcare Authority possesses a comprehensive database that supports precise planning to meet the needs of the healthcare system, thus contributing to the development of treatment plans based on the actual needs of patients.

Dr. Sherif El-Sadawy, General Manager and Executive Director of Merck Germany, explained that the MoU aims to develop a comprehensive treatment protocol over three years, focusing particularly on hypothyroidism. The protocol will address three main areas: early diagnosis, enhancing the capabilities of medical staff through specialized training programs for doctors across various specialties, and conducting awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of early detection and its role in improving treatment outcomes. He expressed pride in the cooperation with the Egypt Healthcare Authority, stating that it reflects Merck's commitment to supporting national efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare services in Egypt.
