Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, conducted a late-night surprise visit to health facilities under the Authority in Suez Governorate. The visit came shortly after the official launch of the Universal Health Insurance system in the governorate and aimed to monitor operations and ensure the delivery of top-quality healthcare services to citizens.
During the visit, Dr. El-Sobky inspected the Suez Medical Complex, including the emergency departments, evening clinics, intensive care units, inpatient wards, and diagnostic sections. He reviewed the quality of services provided, ensured the availability of essential equipment, and assessed the efficiency of healthcare staff in meeting patients’ needs.
Dr. El-Sobky engaged with citizens to gather their feedback on the speed and quality of services in the reception and emergency departments. To evaluate the emergency teams’ preparedness, he conducted a simulation of an accident scenario to test their ability to handle critical cases with precision and speed.
The Chairman instructed the management of the Suez Medical Complex to double the number of evening clinics, particularly in pediatrics, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology, to alleviate congestion during evening hours. Additionally, he held a meeting with the evening manager, department heads, doctors, nursing staff, and support teams, listening to their suggestions for improving healthcare services. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, urging all staff to work collaboratively as a unified medical team to deliver excellent healthcare services and achieve the highest levels of patient satisfaction.
Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the achievements of the healthcare facilities in Suez, which have provided more than 1.5 million medical and therapeutic services to date. He noted that over 72% of the targeted citizens in the governorate have been registered under the Universal Health Insurance system, reflecting the public's trust in the high-quality services being offered.
He pointed out that the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance system has led to a significant enhancement of healthcare services in Suez. The system has doubled the capacity of healthcare facilities in the governorate, with a 226% increase in the number of hospital beds, a 170% increase in intensive care units, and a 44% increase in neonatal incubators.
Dr. El-Sobky also announced the opening of a chemotherapy department for cancer treatment and the expansion of laboratory capabilities at the Suez Medical Complex. He affirmed that the Authority is committed to continuously developing its services to meet the needs and expectations of patients, achieve the highest standards of quality, and ensure citizen satisfaction.
Accompanying Dr. El-Sobky on his inspection were Dr. Ahmed Hammad, Policy and Healthcare Systems Advisor to the Chairman and Director General of the Technical Office, and Dr. Mohamed Shaban, Director of Evaluation and Follow-Up at the Authority. This visit underscores the Egypt Healthcare Authority’s dedication to advancing healthcare services under the Universal Health Insurance system and ensuring their accessibility, efficiency, and quality for all citizens in Suez Governorate.
