The Egypt Healthcare Authority, led by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the Board and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance and Decent Life projects at the Ministry of Health and Population, announced its representation in nominating Egyptian, Arab, and international figures for the prestigious Virchow Foundation Public Health Award.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky stated that this step represents one of the leading initiatives reflecting the Egypt Healthcare Authority's commitment to promoting international cooperation in healthcare, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation between the Authority and international institutions in line with the Authority's strategy to enhance healthcare quality through exchanging expertise and knowledge with international partners, serving the continuous improvement and development of health services provided to citizens.
Dr. El-Sobky mentioned that the award is given to individuals who have contributed to enhancing public and international health through research and collaborative initiatives, including a prestigious honor and a financial award of 500,000 euros for the winner. Established in 2022 under the patronage of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, the award ceremony is scheduled to be held in Berlin next September under the patronage of the President of the German Federal Parliament, Mrs. Barbel Bas.
Dr. El-Sobky explained that, similar to the prestigious Nobel Prize, winners are nominated by prominent figures such as heads of state, secretaries-general of UN organizations, Nobel or Virchow laureates, or parliament speakers, with a high-level committee selecting the winner each year.
Dr. El-Sobky highlighted that anyone wishing to obtain a nomination and support from the Egypt Healthcare Authority should send the nomination letter for themselves or another scholar to the following email: Intl.cooperation@gahc.gov.eg, by no later than February 20, 2024, to allow the internal committee of the Authority to choose the most distinguished individuals for nomination.
