Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt Healthcare Authority and General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project, visited the Suez governorate after visiting Ras Sedr in South Sinai. This visit is part of his ongoing field tours to monitor the progress of the Universal Health Insurance system's implementation across the governorates.
At the start of his inspection, Dr. El-Sobky met with Major General Tarek Hamed El-Shazly, Governor of Suez, to discuss several important matters related to the completion of the healthcare system in the governorate and the launch of the Universal Health Insurance system.
Dr. El-Sobky announced that the Cabinet had approved the official launch of the Universal Health Insurance system in Suez in December, following the successful pilot operations in the governorate.
After meeting with the Governor, Dr. El-Sobky inspected the preparations for the first phase of Suez Specialized Surgery Hospital and the administrative headquarters of the Suez branch of Egypt Healthcare Authority. Dr. El-Sobky confirmed that the ongoing works are progressing according to the set timeline.
Dr. El-Sobky also held an extensive meeting with the leadership of the Suez branch and several healthcare service providers, discussing their suggestions and feedback on improving the working environment and healthcare services. He emphasized that patient satisfaction is a top priority in the system, in line with the directives of the political leadership.
Dr. El-Sobky highlighted the importance of operating the Suez Specialized Surgery Hospital as a model facility, similar to the Suez Medical Complex, and praised the hospital's success in a short period. He pointed out that the hospital will operate with 123 beds and 12 specialized departments, including "Obstetrics and Gynecology," "Neonatal and Pediatric Care," and "General Surgery, Cardiology, and Pediatric Orthopedics."
Dr. El-Sobky also added that the unification of operational systems ensures high-quality healthcare at all times. He emphasized the importance of information management based on the latest administrative and clinical knowledge and international reference standards. He further stated that every healthcare provider plays an essential role in the success of the healthcare system and integration of services, stressing the importance of adherence to the institutional culture and values of Egypt Healthcare Authority.
Dr. El-Sobky also pointed out that the Universal Health Insurance system in Suez is supported by 33 healthcare facilities, including a medical complex, five hospitals, and 27 family medicine centers, to provide integrated healthcare services to the people of Suez. He reported that more than 1.5 million medical services have been provided through the healthcare facilities affiliated with the Authority to the people of Suez.
Dr. El-Sobky further mentioned that 23 healthcare facilities in Suez have been accredited, and 570,000 citizens have been registered, representing more than 72% of the target population for registration in the governorate. He also stated that 7 million health awareness services and initiatives have been delivered to promote public health, including the presidential initiatives "100 Million Health" and "Bidaya," along with 13 other public health initiatives. The total cost of implementing the Universal Health Insurance system in Suez amounts to 5.75 billion EGP.
In response, Governor of Suez Major General Tarek El-Shazly praised the significant role of Egypt Healthcare Authority in enhancing medical and therapeutic services in the governorate. He stated that the Universal Health Insurance system represents a significant hope for all Egyptians to obtain high-quality healthcare services.
Dr. El-Sobky was accompanied on his visit by several senior officials from Egypt Healthcare Authority, including directors of central and general departments, the head of the Suez Canal region, the supervisor of the Port Said branch, and the director of the Suez branch of Egypt Healthcare Authority.
